today is National Super Hero Day! While we love heroes like Spiderman, Batgirl, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, the Flash, and Super Girl, the real heroes we want to acknowledge and celebrate, are all of the teachers, police officers, fire fighters, doctors, parents, and grand parents. To all the people who go out of there way to protect, educate, and inspire our children, you are the real heroes. Who are your Heroes?
DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Mattel are launching a huge push toward marketing to girls in the Fall of this year. It’s called DC Super Hero Girls and well, I think it is going to be pretty awesome.
here is the official press release "DC Super Hero Girls, an exciting new universe of Super Heroic storytelling that helps build character and confidence, and empowers girls to discover their true potential. Featuring DC Comics’ most powerful and diverse line-up of female characters as relatable teens, DC Super Hero Girls will play out across multiple entertainment content platforms and product categories to create an immersive world. Developed for girls aged 6-12, DC Super Hero Girls centers on the female Super Heroes and Super-Villains of the DC Comics universe during their formative years—prior to discovering their full super power potential. Featuring a completely new artistic style and aesthetic, DC Comics’ icons such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy, Katana and many more make their unprecedented teenaged introduction. Each character has her own storyline that explores what teen life is like as a Super Hero, including discovering her unique abilities, nurturing her remarkable powers and mastering the fundamentals of being a hero. The initial launch of DC Super Hero Girls in Fall 2015 will include an immersive digital experience, original digital content and digital publishing—providing opportunities for girls to interact with characters, learn about the storylines, and engage in customizable play. TV specials, made-for-videos, toys, apparel, books and other product categories will begin to rollout in 2016." Am I the only one who thinks this sounds pretty amazing, my god daughter loves comic books, and i am so glad that a comic company is finally listening and creating something that is gonna cater just to her. i do hope that this isn't a weird universe where guys don't exist and we can see these strong female heroes fight against and along side some of DC's male heroes and villains. i do like that they have created designs that do not sexualize the characters, poison ivy is usually covered in nothing but a few leaves, and in the initial design she is wearing a dress and leggings, i am glad they are taking modesty into account. i am excited to see the concept and characters unfold, and can not wait to support this step forward for the comic industry. i just hope they don't make everything pink and purple, and allow for a gender neutral color pallet. this weekend we got our first view of Jared Leto as the Joker, David Ayers and Leto have been giving us little teases for the last month or so, but this is the first official image of the oscar winner in full blown joker mode. it's a bit jarring to be honest, and not at all what i was expecting. The joker has been immortalized in tow previous film incarnations first Jack Nicholson, and secondly Heath Ledger, and personally for me Mark Hammil's joker from Batman The Animated Series is always going to be the definitive Joker. This is something completely different, gone are the purple suits, and acid spraying corsages, in their place is a hardened criminal who has lost his mind, this Joker is not one who hides behind goons and henchmen, he has got the muscle to fight his own battles, he is covered in tattoos like a hardened gang leader, his teeth have been knocked out and replaced with silver caps. this Joker is in a deep dark spiral of despair found in the darkest corners of Gotham. i am interested to see how it all plays out. Now we wait with bated breath for Harley Quinn to give us a bit of a show.
Disney has finally teased us with an image of the adult cast of The Descendants in costume... my head is spinning. i'll start with what i like, the Jafar costume is pretty great, i love the fabrics used, the colors are great, and it's a pretty great translation of the animated original. the actor himself doesn't look very Jafar ish, but we shall see how his performance is. it's hard because i think once upon a time in wonderland did a pretty great depiction of Jafar, but i have an open mind. Kristin as Maleficent is going to be great, i'm intrigued because she was the only one they have really teased in the trailer and in previous photos and she was wearing a different costume, so maybe we will see her in more than one. You don't see much of the costume in this photo, but i love the solid black, it looks like it has some great texture to it, and a little glitz, which i always love. Now for what i don't like... Cruella looks horrid, that costume is cheap and tacky, and her wig looks nothing like Cruella's trade mark two toned do. You can't have the costumes in the Glenn Close version, or even Once Upon a Time's take on the villain, and then go to this tragic tacky ass mess. she better not wear that coat the whole film or i will be pissed. i get trying to do something different and going in a different direction, but there is a way to do that correctly, and this is not it. The Wicked Queen looks cheap, it looks like a halloween costume they bought at Party City, and not even one of the expensive 100.00 ones, like a cheap 35.00 one. and the crown looks like it's made of cardboard. the whole thing looks cheap. im hoping she will also get a costume change because looking at this the whole movie will be painful. i am still looking forward to this film, and i love what they have done with the costumes for the kids. it will be interesting to see how this all looks in the actual movie. What do you think, do you like the costumes so far? Are you excited for the film still?

i hope that everyone can remember this. Beauty is an interesting thing, sometimes what we see as flaws is someone else's ideal vision of beauty.
this is such a simple concept. i really do believe that magic is real. Not in a harry potter sort of way, but when you do something kind for someone, when you inspire someone, when you go out of your way to do something simple that will make a positive impact on some one else, that is magic. One of the reasons i wanted to create this company was to inspire the imagination and creativity, but i also hope to inspire kindness. I hope that we can spread joy, and laughter. Dolly Parton once said "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." and what a wonderful gift that is. There is nothing more inspiring then seeing a look on the child's face when they turn the corner and see their favorite princess standing their waiting to say hello, in that moment they believe that magic is real, and that anything is possible. i hope that as a company we can continue to inspire children and can also make a difference in the community and on a bigger platform. i hope that our acts of kindness can inspire others to be kind as well.
